Walking in Obedience

When you receive the Lord Jesus as your Savior, you receive eternal life. It is God's gift to you because of your faith in the Lord Jesus. We trust you will want to please the Lord Jesus in all that you do. Therefore, we want to show you four important things which the Bible tells us all new believers should do. Pray for the Lord to help you with the following steps.

1. Confess Him Before Others - Matthew 10:32-33. 

Confession means that you should tell someone that you are saved and what the Lord has done for you. You might ask, "Where should I confess Him?" If it is possible, begin in   our own home, to some member of your family, to those in your church (friends, Sunday School teacher, etc.), and your pastor. If you are not attending a church, then tell your friends what God has done for you in giving you salvation as His gift through your faith in Christ. Ask the Lord to help you to continue to be a good witness for Jesus wherever you may be.

2. Salvation Comes First, Then Believer's Baptism - Acts 8:35-38, 2:41; 8:12. 

The Bible is clear on the matter of baptism. Only those who have received the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior are proper candidates for baptism.  This is why we call it "believer's baptism".  In Romans 6:4, it is called, "buried with him in baptism." In the book of Acts, we read that in the early church, baptism always followed faith in Christ. (Acts 19:5) We note that Philip would not baptize the Ethiopian until he had confessed his faith in Christ as his Savior. Our Lord Jesus commanded that all who believe in Him should be baptized. (Matthew 28:19-20)

3. Unite With A Church - Acts 2:47

Just as a new baby needs its parents to feed it and protect it, so, every newborn Christian needs a church family. Therefore, you should become a member of a Bible-believing, gospel-preaching church. It should be a church where the Bible, God's Word, is the final authority on ALL matters of doctrine and Christian living. There are other churches where your new found faith in the Savior would be ridiculed. Therefore, your church family is vital to your spiritual growth. (Hebrews 10:25) Here are some things to look for when seeking a church family:

1.  A church which stands for and upon the Word of God. 2 Timothy 4:1-5
2.  A church that preaches Christ crucified.  1 Corinthians 15:1-4
3.  A church separated from the world.  James 1:27; 4:4
4.  A witnessing church, seeking lost souls.  2 Corinthians 5:19-20
5.  A church looking for the "blessed hope" (rapture).  Titus 2:13
6.  A church that teaches His glorious return to earth.  Rev. 19:11-16; John 14:3

4. Study God's Word - 2 Timothy 2:15

Your spiritual growth will depend on what you do with the Word of God -- that is, how much you read, study, and obey it. Peter wrote that it was to be desired for spiritual growth, (1 Peter 2:2), Paul urged young Timothy to study the Word to show himself approved before God (2 Timothy 2:15). Our Lord said that the Word which He spoke was "spirit and life," (John 6:63). In Colossians 3:16, we have the command to "...let the word of Christ dwell in you richly." It is important to read God's Word every day.
Be systematic (orderly) in your Bible study. This is the way to gain the most from your time with the Word of God. Now look up Job 23:12 and see what he thought about the Word of God. See what Jesus said about God's Word in Matthew 4:4.
